Ground transportation decision guide
Getting picked up at SEA
Choose the right pickup zone before leaving baggage claim: private car, rideshare, taxi, hotel shuttle, Link, rental car, and charter services do not meet in the same place.

The decision
What the facts mean together
At SEA, the best option is not only a price decision. It is a handoff decision: who is meeting you, where that service is allowed to load, how much luggage and mobility equipment you have, and whether the final destination is served well by transit. Most commercial pickups use the parking garage, while several services have distinct curbs or shuttle stops.
Private ride, rideshare, or taxi
App-based rideshare pickup is on the third floor of the parking garage in marked stalls 1–34; premium Uber Black uses a passenger-selected baggage-claim door. Metered taxis wait on the third-floor north and south curbs and operate around the clock. A prearranged private ride should confirm its exact authorized pickup instructions with the passenger instead of assuming every commercial service uses the same lane.
Open SEA's ground transportation map →Hotel shuttle or rental car
Hotel and off-site courtesy shuttles use the third-floor courtesy-island shuttle lane; the Port currently lists Islands 1A–D, 2A, and 3A–C. Rental cars are off airport. Free rental-car buses use two baggage-claim-level pickup areas—one near the north end and one near the south end—and the Port describes the shuttle ride as about five minutes.
Link, airporter, or charter
Airport/SeaTac Link station is reached from the fourth-floor garage skybridge route; the official ground transportation map estimates a seven-to-twelve-minute walk, and SEA offers a complimentary Train-to-Plane shuttle. Scheduled airporters use Arrivals Drive near Door 00. Charter groups collect baggage first, then call Ground Transportation so the bus can be dispatched to the northeast charter lot.
Travel-day checklist
Keep the decision current
- 1Identify the service type before walking away from baggage claim
- 2Confirm the exact floor, island, stall, door, or curb with the provider
- 3Count passengers, bags, child seats, and mobility equipment
- 4Use airport signs and the Ground Transportation Booth when instructions conflict

How one airport detail changes the rest of the plan
The useful answer is rarely one isolated fact. These are the dependencies that most often change the decision.
You have checked bags or mobility equipment
The distance from baggage claim to a garage, station, or shuttle island becomes part of the trip—not an incidental detail.
Choose the service and vehicle around the complete handoff, and arrange assistance before travel when needed.
The airport drives are congested
Morning drop-off and evening pickup peaks can change which airport drive moves faster, but they do not change every service's authorized loading zone.
Follow current airport signs and provider instructions; do not improvise an unsafe shoulder or unauthorized curb pickup.
Your destination is downtown Seattle
Link can avoid road traffic and parking, while a direct ride avoids the station walk and transfers with luggage.
Compare door-to-door effort, party size, luggage, accessibility, and arrival hour—not fare alone.
Common planning mistakes
When the simple answer breaks down
- Waiting at baggage claim when the assigned service loads in the parking garage
- Treating every shuttle as a hotel shuttle or every commercial vehicle as rideshare
- Accepting an unsolicited ride from someone who is not the assigned or licensed operator
- Choosing a vehicle by passenger count while ignoring bags, strollers, or mobility devices
Connect the plan
Check the flight, then reserve the right ride.
Airport details can change. Confirm the flight and current airport information before choosing the pickup time.
