What to know before you go
- 01
Washington State Ferries' Seattle to Bainbridge Island boats leave Colman Dock at Pier 52, on the downtown waterfront. The crossing takes about 35 minutes.
- 02
Walking on is easy. Reach the terminal by the Marion Street pedestrian bridge or one of three stairways from Alaskan Way; there are two elevators. The ticket booth and self-serve kiosks are in the enclosed walkway into the terminal.
- 03
Walk-on tickets on this route are round trip, so you buy one before you leave Seattle.
- 04
On Bainbridge you walk off on the upper level, along an overhead walkway with benches and heaters that opened in 2024. The terminal is at 270 Olympic Drive SE.
- 05
Winslow, the island's downtown, is right by the terminal. The Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, steps from the ferry on Winslow Way, is free and shows modern art and craft from around Puget Sound.
- 06
The city's Waterfront Park, on the harbor at the edge of downtown, has a dock and a play area. There are visitor information centers at the ferry terminal and on Winslow Way.
- 07
The Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial, a free National Park Service site at Pritchard Park on Eagle Harbor Drive, stands at the old Eagledale ferry dock. Its Story Wall follows the path islanders of Japanese descent walked when they were forced from their homes on March 30, 1942. Its motto is Nidoto Nai Yoni, Let It Not Happen Again. It's across the harbor from Winslow, so plan a ride or a bike.
- 08
Bloedel Reserve, 140 acres of gardens and forest a drive from Winslow, recommends timed tickets.
- 09
Driving on? SR 305 crosses the Agate Pass Bridge to the Kitsap Peninsula, the start of the road toward the Olympic Peninsula.
Ferry schedules change with the seasons and holidays, and Colman Dock still has some construction. Check Washington State Ferries before you go.
