Things to do in Seattle

Boeing Future of Flight

A guided tour inside the world's largest factory, where Boeing builds the 777 and 777X, plus a gallery and Sky Deck at Paine Field, north of Seattle.

The useful answer

Should this fit your day?

Best for
Aviation fans, engineers and kids who are tall enough, and anyone who's already seen the Museum of Flight and wants to watch planes being built.
Time to protect
Allow about half a day: around 45 minutes each way, check-in, the 80-minute tour and time in the gallery.
Cruise-day fit
A half day north of the city, so it suits the day before a sailing or after you get off the ship, not boarding morning. Paine Field is north, so Pier 91 is on the way; Pier 66 is a little farther.
From the terminals
From Pier 91 the drive goes straight north. From Pier 66 it's a ride up through the city first. Either way, book a car each way.
Before a flight
Mukilteo is north of Seattle and SEA is well south, so the drive crosses the whole city. Don't book a tour on the day you fly; the Museum of Flight is the aviation stop on the way to SEA.

Before you book the factory tour

Boeing's rules are strict and the tour sells out. Three checks first.

  1. 1. Everyone is at least 4 feet tall.

No exceptions and no carrying children. Under-16s need an adult with them.

  2. 2. Leave everything in the locker.

No phones, cameras or bags on the tour. Free lockers are in the lobby.

  3. 3. Not on a flight day.

Paine Field is north of Seattle, the opposite way from SEA. For planes on the way to the airport, see the Museum of Flight.

What to know before you go

  1. 01

The Boeing Everett Factory Tour is running: the official site sells tickets for every day of the week, apart from a few holidays. Tickets sell out quickly, so book ahead.

  2. 02

It's an 80-minute guided tour that looks down on current airplane production, including the 777 and 777X assembly line, from the factory balcony.

  3. 03

Nothing comes with you: no phones, cameras, tablets or other electronics, and no purses, bags or backpacks. Free lockers are in the lobby. There are no restrooms on the tour.

  4. 04

You must be at least 4 feet (48 inches) tall, children under 16 need an adult, and you can't carry a child on the tour.

  5. 05

The tour involves about a third of a mile of walking, with stairs and elevators. Wheelchair-accessible tours are available if you ask ahead.

  6. 06

The Future of Flight building also has gallery exhibits and a Sky Deck. Arrive at least 30 minutes before your tour.

  7. 07

Without a car: Tours Northwest runs a private SUV trip to the factory tour for up to six guests with hotel pickup, booked by phone or email. Or book a ride to Paine Field and back.

Tour schedules, holidays and rules can change. Check the official Boeing Future of Flight site for current tours and tickets before you go.
