Things to do in Seattle

MoPOP

Music, film, fashion and gaming inside Frank Gehry's swooping building at Seattle Center, right beside the Monorail.

The useful answer

Should this fit your day?

Best for
Music fans, gamers and film buffs, and anyone who needs a good indoor plan for a rainy Seattle afternoon.
Time to protect
The museum suggests giving yourself at least a few hours; two to three is a comfortable visit.
Cruise-day fit
MoPOP is at Seattle Center, between the two cruise piers but not at either. Large bags aren't welcome, so it works best the day before a sailing or once your luggage is stored or with a driver.
From the terminals
Pier 66 is the closer terminal, a short ride up from the waterfront; Pier 91 is farther away. Either way, plan a ride rather than a walk with cruise bags.
Before a flight
There's no timed entry, which helps on a flight day, but the galleries are easy to lose track of time in. Set a firm leave time for SEA.

What to know before you go

  1. 01

General admission is first come, first served. Keep your receipt or digital ticket and you can come back in the same day. Ticket sales are final.

  2. 02

Small bags are fine, but leave large bags and backpacks behind: the coat check isn't always open, and umbrellas, food and drinks aren't allowed in the galleries.

  3. 03

Everyone walks through a metal detector at the entrance, so allow a few extra minutes at busy times.

  4. 04

The Monorail from Westlake Center downtown stops right next to the museum. For a drop-off, use the turnaround at 5th Avenue North and Harrison Street.

  5. 05

Photos are welcome, but no flash, tripods or selfie sticks. The building has six elevators, and wheelchairs and sensory bags can be borrowed at the ticket desk with an ID.

MoPOP sometimes closes for private events and changes exhibitions. Check the official site for current hours, tickets and what's on before you go.

Big bags

  • Pier 66: Same-day bag storage is available. Pick bags up by 3 pm to avoid a late fee.
  • Pier 91: Same-day bag storage in the Crew Center, north of the Ground Transportation Center. Pick bags up by 3 pm to avoid a late fee.

Stored bags mean a stop back at the pier before the airport. To keep them with you instead, book a car by the hour and the driver waits with your luggage.
