What to know before you go
- 01
Savor Seattle has run food tours at Pike Place Market since 2007. Its Original Food & Culture Tour takes about two and a quarter hours, with more than a dozen tastings at eight stops.
- 02
Tastings change with the seasons and can include Beecher's cheese, Pike Place Chowder, Daily Dozen doughnuts and Chukar Cherries. Most guests eat lightly beforehand: it adds up to more than a snack.
- 03
The tour meets at Savor's headquarters at 2004 1st Avenue, about a block from the market, and ends a few blocks away. You walk about a mile, mostly standing, so wear comfortable shoes.
- 04
Savor also runs an Insider's Breakfast tour of the market and a Progressive Dinner Tour of four downtown restaurants that starts at The State Hotel on 2nd Avenue.
- 05
Groups are capped at 16, the market's own limit, and need at least four guests to run. Tours go rain or shine.
- 06
Ask for vegetarian or non-alcoholic swaps when you book; they can't be arranged on the day. For serious allergies, call Savor before buying.
- 07
The market's cobblestones, stairs and crowded shops make parts of the route hard with a stroller or wheelchair. Savor will talk through access before you book.
- 08
More about the market than the food? Friends of the Market volunteers lead small history walks on Saturdays from May to October, starting under the market clock.
Tours, tastings and start times change with the season. Check each operator's official site for current tours and tickets before you go.
