Things to do in Seattle

Woodinville wine country

More than 130 wineries and tasting rooms in the Sammamish River Valley, northeast of Seattle: an easy wine day, as long as somebody else drives.

The useful answer

Should this fit your day?

Best for
Wine lovers, groups celebrating something and anyone looking for a relaxed, rain-proof day out close to the city.
Time to protect
Plan on four or five hours: a ride out, two or three tastings in one district and lunch, then a ride back.
Cruise-day fit
It's close, but it's a tasting day, so keep it for the day before your sailing or after you get off the ship, not boarding day. Both piers are a ride away, across the city and over Lake Washington.
From the terminals
Neither pier is a walk. Book a car from Pier 91, Pier 66 or your hotel, and another to bring you back.
Before a flight
SEA is to the south and Woodinville is northeast, with city traffic in between. Don't taste the afternoon before a flight; make it an arrival-day or free-day plan.

Who's driving?

Nobody who's tasting. Pick how you'll get there and back before you pick a winery.

  1. Book a ride there and back

We'll drive you from your hotel or the pier to Woodinville and pick you up when you're done. Everyone tastes.

  2. A designated driver

One person skips the pours. Park once in a walkable district and stay there.

  3. A guided wine tour

Someone else plans the wineries and drives, often with lunch. Evergreen Escapes adds Snoqualmie Falls to the day.

What to know before you go

  1. 01

Woodinville's more than 130 wineries are spread across four districts in the Sammamish River Valley: Downtown, Hollywood, the Warehouse District and West Valley.

  2. 02

Each district has its own feel. Hollywood is alive with restaurants and tasting rooms, the Warehouse District gives you a behind-the-scenes look at winemaking, West Valley has a relaxed pace, and Downtown has new places to eat, drink and shop.

  3. 03

Most districts are walkable, so the local advice is to park once and spend the day in one district rather than drive between them.

  4. 04

Wine tasting is for adults 21 and over. Each winery sets its own rules for kids and pets, so check before you bring them.

  5. 05

Tasting and driving don't mix. Book a ride there and back, or a local tour: options run from a private town car to a shuttle bus, and Uber and Lyft work in the area.

  6. 06

The Woodinville Visitor Center, on NE Village Square Drive, gives personal recommendations for your day of tasting.

  7. 07

Prefer a guided day? Evergreen Escapes' Snoqualmie Falls and wine tour pairs the falls with two or three wineries and a picnic lunch, for ages 21 and up.

Wineries set their own tasting rules and reservation policies. Check the Woodinville Wine Country site and each winery before you go.
